What is HFSI?

Harvard Food Systems Initiative (HFSI) is an educational program to inspire elevated thinking and change to shape future food systems leaders for a more sustainable future. Led by Harvard University Dining Services in collaboration with Harvard Faculty and practitioners in the field, HFSI will drive knowledge and experience in pursuit of food systems citizenship.

Harvard University educates the world’s future leaders. Harvard University Dining Services, with connections across Harvard’s campuses and within the majority of its professional school is, accordingly, uniquely positioned to convene our institution’s thought leadership to advance the HFSI. Further, lectures and visiting guests will directly correlate to the HUDS’ Shared Vision Framework.

HFSI envisions drawing on faculty from all the professional schools as the program advances in the years ahead. Ultimately, the HFSI will drive an understanding of how food forms an inextricable link between human health and environmental sustainability, and will empower participants to make food choices that optimize their long-term well being and the health of the planet.
